Cisco Expo in Moscow was attended by an all-time record number of 2,336 unique attendees (vs. 2,298 last year), including 185 who used WebEx.

Cisco Expo is a well known brand in Russia. Number of conference visitors grows every year. Topics presented become more innovative and deeply covered. Speakers' professionalism, material delivery and the level of organization of the conference were all highly appreciated by the visitors. Cisco Expo 2010 is the eleventh annual conference which became one of the biggest and brightest IT events in Russia. Its agenda included keynote sessions, presentations and demonstrations, partner exhibition, announcements of latest solutions, Smart Grid launch in Russia and Skolkovo Innovation Award, open discussions, meetings with experts and executives, special education sessions of Cisco and partners, various press activities, VIP party and a social event.

The 3 days long conference was marked by:

4 Cisco's keynotes

  • Paul Betsis opened the conference with an update of Cisco engagement with Russia, focusing the results of President Medvedev's meeting with John Chambers in San Jose.
  • Massimo Migliuolo in his keynote speech highlighted important things of our life: market is changing very fast; how do we change ourselves to take profit of the existing technologies and how the new markets are evolving.
  • Allan Bjornstad presented new way of working using visual communication technologies and Cisco/Tandberg solutions. He demonstrated how to raise effectiveness of business implementing collaboration solutions. This was a real show that was very warmly received by the audience.
  • Smart Grid launch in Russia. Laura Ipsen shared with the audience Smart Grid concept, trends and opportunities, and how Cisco Smart Grid products & solutions can help to modernize Russian Power Energy System.
  • Laura Ipsen and Paul Betsis also announced Skolkovo Innovation Award which should stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship in Russia

Cisco Expo 2010 main agenda was broken up into 10 technology tracks including more than 140 breakout sessions on technologies and solutions from Cisco and the conference sponsors. This year for the first time Managed Services track was included into the Cisco Expo Moscow agenda.

Solution demonstration zone

This year CiscoExpo featured a larger than ever Solution Demonstration Zone which consisted of 6 demo areas located throughout the conference venue and included the following major demonstrations:

  • Cisco Smart Grid Demonstration as a part of SmartGrid Launch @ CiscoExpo, included Cisco Connected Grid products, Cisco Home Energy Conroller, Unified Communications and Physical Security for Substation Automation and Dispatcher Control, Substation Automation integration of ABB 61850 controllers.
  • DataCenter/Virtualisation Demo built together with EMC, VMWare,
    APC and Intel – included the first Vblock demonstration in Russia (Cisco Unified Computing System, EMC Celerra, VMware vSphere 4). A dedicated DC Demo track was also part of the Expo agenda.
  • Unified Communications and Business Video Demo that demonstrated the joint Cisco-Tandberg solution and UC on UCS demo;
  • Digital Signage;
  • Video Surveillance;
  • BN Wireless solution demo (CleanAir on the base of Cisco Unified Wireless Network);
  • BN Security solutions demo, including Cisco NAC (Network Admission Control), Iron Port solutions;
  • Cisco NMS Solutions Demo, including Cisco ANA (Active Network Abstraction) and CiscoWorks LMS;
  • Cisco Mobility (ASR 5000) demo booth.

The demo areas were open for Expo attendees during the whole duration of the conference. In addition to that 40+ scheduled demo sessions for key customers and partners were conducted in the demo areas as well as several instructor-led demo sessions that were included the in the Cisco Expo agenda.

Cisco Mobility demo booth about 15 full system demonstrations were attended by more than 40 customers and partners (mostly from mobile SPs and integrators involved into mobile networking). These demos included ASR 5000 architecture implemented in the booth, demonstration of mobile call setup with traces in management terminal window, different "subscriber" behavior in accordance to the policy applied, basically on the URL/content filtering example, as well as a voice call between subscribers connected to the different access technologies – e.g from WiMax to LTE - using common IMS core. All of the booth visitors were excited with ability of the system simultaneously serve different radio access domains and expressed their opinion that it might be interesting to test it in the real environment.

The exhibition area hosted 22 partner demo booths.

Online broadcasting

Keynote sessions of Cisco Expo and Data Center track were broadcast using Cisco WebEx for online audience from about 100 cities of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tadzhikistan, Kyrgyzstan

185 online attendees – members of Cisco Expo Learning Club program.

Interactive round tables and open discussions

Interactive round tables and open discussions were organized in friendly atmosphere with participation of Cisco experts, consultants and main specialists. The events aimed to share opinions and vision on technology processes acceleration and business optimization using Cisco solutions.

EMC and WMware became gold sponsors of Cisco Expo. VCE coalition created recently by Cisco, EMC and VMware has been announced during EMC key note session. The coalition solutions were also presented during Data center technology and demo tracks. Technology Innovations - Vblock Infrastructure Packages (VIPs) were demonstrated at the conference exhibition and attracted attention of many Cisco Expo attendees.

ROI Contest Final and Award Ceremony

ROI Contest Final and Award ceremony was attended by 150 Russian startups. Valley), State Universities, VCs, media, Yandex ("Russian Google"), Moscow Business School. 215 Business projects submitted—first step in Cisco's investment in Russia, 250 press hits issued, 5 winners. Arkady Dvorkovich, Advisor of the Russia President promoted ROI Conest on Twitter.

Cisco Shop

Cisco Shop offered Cisco books, Linksys products, souvenirs with Cisco branding. They sold 103 Cisco books, 363 T-shirts, 385 badge-holders, 171 mugs, 50 sweaters, and 5 flags.

 

Social Event

Social Event took place during Cisco Expo closing. Beer party and friendly cocktails where organized in the evening of the third day of the conference, just after ROI Contest final and award ceremony. Light music and meals created relaxed atmosphere when people discussed past three days of the conference and experiences gained.
